New Equipment Unveiled at Chaleur Regional Hospital Thanks to Proceeds from the Roses Radiothon
Bathurst, June 25, 2012 – The Roses Radiothon team presented a $100,000-cheque today to the Chaleur Regional Hospital to help purchase two essential units and install a workstation for the Radiology Department. This money was collected through various fundraising activities held in 2012 within the scope of the 6th Annual Roses Radiothon.

“We are very grateful to the members of the Roses Radiothon Committee and the many volunteers for their hard work and dedication. We are equally touched by the generosity of people in the Chaleur region, Acadian Peninsula, and surrounding areas. As a result of their generosity, we were able to purchase new pieces of essential equipment for the Chaleur Regional Hospital. Year after year, the Radiothon allows us to update our equipment and improve services provided to our region’s residents,” said Gisèle Beaulieu, Executive Director of the Chaleur Regional Hospital.

More specifically, the money was used to help the Chaleur Regional Hospital purchase a colposcopy unit and a thyroid uptake unit totalling $150,000. The money was also used to install a workstation reserved exclusively for mammography examinations. With this new workstation, women will be able to get their results in a more timely fashion, since the facility will no longer have to send the mammograms outside the region to be analyzed.

“As a result of the community’s efforts, health professionals at the Chaleur Regional Hospital are now better equipped to evaluate and treat patients with cancer,” said Thérèse Haché, Ambassador of the 2012 Roses Radiothon. “When I was asked to participate in the Roses Radiothon as an ambassador and cancer survivor, I readily accepted. I was also convinced that the community would be all the more understanding and that its members would donate generously to our cause; the $198,798 raised during this campaign is concrete proof of that. However, it isn’t so much the money raised, but rather the lives saved that will testify to the true success of the 6th Annual Roses Radiothon in the coming years,” continued Haché.

“I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to Joseph Lanteigne, Irène Thériault, Berthe Comeau, Marie-Jeanne Noël, and Gilles Lanteigne, who are all outstanding volunteers. Together with the teams, they met this challenge with great success and we are extremely grateful to them. Since 2007, the Roses Radiothon has raised the whopping sum of $626,064 to improve cancer treatment services at the Chaleur Regional Hospital. The Roses Radiothon cares about the health of the region’s residents, as its slogan clearly indicates: IN OUR REGION, FOR OUR REGION!,” said Armand Roussy, member of the 2012 Roses Radiothon Committee and General Manager of CKLE radio station.

The cheque presentation and official unveiling took place today at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in the presence of several guests and dignitaries.
